A recent infographic created by CareerBuilder advances the story a bit, by laying out some statistics regarding that gap.
From the research, here are some key findings about this somewhat controversial worker shortage issue in an economy with relatively high unemployment:
- Nearly two-thirds of candidates knowingly apply for a position for which they do not have the requisite skills.
- Employers only inform about 12% of candidates they do not have those requisite skills.
- The skills job applicants most often lack are job-specific.
- Of the employers surveyed, 38% have positions open for which they cannot find qualified candidates.
- Only 1 in 5 candidates are actively trying to re-skill themselves through volunteering or more schooling.
