Hey, did you hear there are millions of unfilled jobs, right here in these United States, because there is a gap between what employers want and need, and the skills job candidates have to offer?

A recent infographic created by CareerBuilder advances the story a bit, by laying out some statistics regarding that gap.

From the research, here are some key findings about this somewhat controversial worker shortage issue in an economy with relatively high unemployment:

  • Nearly two-thirds of candidates knowingly apply for a position for which they do not have the requisite skills.
  • Employers only inform about 12% of candidates they do not have those requisite skills.
  • The skills job applicants most often lack are job-specific.
  • Of the employers surveyed, 38% have positions open for which they cannot find qualified candidates.
  • Only 1 in 5 candidates are actively trying to re-skill themselves through volunteering or more schooling.
