Six Disciplines studied what high performance organizations do, in contrast with low performing organizations.

They found a number of factors that stood out as most significant. In fact, they found that high performing organizations scored much higher in each of these key areas:

These were the top success factors for high performing organizations:

  • A strong senior leadership team.
  • The organization's ability to attract and retain quality people.
  • The organization's ability to adopt a disciplined approach to the business including working on the business to create plans and align the employees to execute the business plans.
  • High performance organizations made strategic use of technology.
  • High performance organizations developed relationships with trusted outside providers such as attorneys, finance and accounting professionals, and insurance professionals.
  • High performance organizations had a culture of team work and commitment.
  • High performance organizations had a commitment to a quality-oriented culture.
